STEP 1. The first step on any tutorial will always be about drawing the guidelines. This is done so that you can get a general idea on how to draw out your sketches. For the Australian pelican you will be drawing the frame work for it. Just think of a metal piece of art shaped as an animal or object. Start by drawing a circle for the head, and from the head draw a long curved line for the neck. At the bottom of the neck line draw an egg shape for the torso of the bird. Than draw another larger circle for the middle part of the pelicans body. Finish off the framing by drawing a rounded pyramid shape for the tail end.   STEP 2. Now after all the guidelines for the frame have been drawn out the next step is to start filling in the lining by drawing around the guidelines. Starting at the top sketch out the pelicans head which has a spiked hair do. Next sketch in the eye which is bigger than most birds, after you do that sketch the separation line to show the pelicans bill. Draw a long sword shaped bill with the line going down the middle that thickens up underneath. The pelicans bill remember has a pouch so make sure the bottom of the bill is alot thicker than the top. Now you can sketch in the neck and detail a part of the body. Fill in the legs as well which are pretty thick.   STEP 3. This is the last step. Yup that's it only three steps. Since the pelican is a big bold animal, drawing it is a breeze. What you will do now in this step is sketch in the eyeball, and all those loose looking feathers. Pelican feathers always look wet and separated. The wing should be sketched in a different direction than the tail end. Sketch in some chest feathers and detail and define the legs and feet with some simple line marks. After you do all this you can then move on and erase all the sketch marks and guidelines made in step 1.   STEP 4. I present the Australian pelican. This is a cute looking bird huh. The next step would be just to color him in and puff up the feathers with a shading technique. Well I don't know about you but I had a lot of fun here today.   Step 1. Step 2. Step 3. Step 4.
