STEP 1. Ok, let's get started with some guide lines. When I drew the body, I thought of a little gourd. Maybe you know the type I'm thinking of. Anyway, the thighs are just big, rounded square/diamond shapes. Bring the curve of the neck all the way down and around to the end of the tail. Try to make it one nice curve. Tiny head. Chicken wings up top. Yay. Let's move on.   STEP 2. With really cartoony character like this, you want to try to extend your lines as far as possible. So here, the entire snout is one line, rather than multiple short ones. Draw in the eyebrow first, and then add the eye below.   STEP 3. Whoa, vampiric. Here we'll draw in the sharp triangles for horns and his fangs, and also add some nostrils and eye detail.   STEP 4. So when you're drawing cartoon fire like this, it's all about drawing reverse curves. You curve it one way, and then the other. It's like drawing wavy water, leaves, and a bunch of other things. Just keep the general direction in mind, and make your curves back and forth.   STEP 5. Here you'll want to draw the lower lip first, and then draw the chin below it. Leave a space for one of his teeth to poke past the lip.   STEP 6. Draw the two teeth in first. Then draw the gum line behind them. Then you can add in the tongue. I've also drawn some finer details to the face and horns.   STEP 7. Now for the body. The main thing is to keep nice, clean curves. If you're not comfortable drawing a single line down the neck and to the bottom of the stomach, do what I did here -- end your curve early, and then add a little wrinkle or vein. Then you can pick up the curve again and it all looks pretty seemless.   STEP 8. Let's jump to the hands now. We'll begin with the fingers on one hand. Start with the knuckles. At the fingertips, draw the inside curve of the fingernails/claws. We'll add the claws later. On the opposite hand, we're seeing the palm and thumb, so let's do the reverse. Start with the claw. Then add the wrinkles of the thumb, and end with the two lumps of the palm.   STEP 9. Now we can add the remaining fingers and claws.   STEP 10. Sometimes it's easier to draw the arms when the hands are already in place.   STEP 11. Weird shoulders on this guy. Draw the front spikes first. Then use curves behind that to connect to the arms. Draw the back curve of the shoulder, and then add the final spike. Getting the front spikes even was actually a bit tricky, so be sure to sit back and take a good look before inking your drawing.   STEP 12. For the legs, we can pretty much just trace the guide lines, but we'll add bumps for the knees, and a few extra curves for some leg muscles.   STEP 13. The lower legs are VERY short. So short they're almost not there. I drew the toe claws first, and then used curves to build the feet around them.   STEP 14. Long curves for the tail. If you're drawing on a computer, or with pencil, you can draw a single curve through the foot and then erase the part that overlaps the foot. Not quite so easy to do that with ink.   STEP 15. Same technique as earlier for the tail fire.   STEP 16. Ok, this is interesting. I actually made a mistake in giving these claws cuticles... like your fingernails... They're supposed to be more like the shoulder spikes... but it's not a big deal. Draw the spikes first. Then build the "arms" behind them. We'll have both spikes aiming toward the front of the head.   STEP 17. Now we can draw in these "carrots" for the last fleshy part of the wings.   STEP 18. Big curves for the "feathers." I added a little bend to the underside of each feather.   STEP 19. Now we can go back in and add some extra details here and there. Season to taste.   STEP 20. ...and there you have it.
